Working away quietly this week building up some details. Not quite 'there' yet but pleasing so far.
An area of discharge work, lines created by rolling a small paint brush loaded with discharge paste, over the cloth. Printing through canvas grid in bottom border.
Figures are taking shape. I am contemplating more here...
And from the Haystack diary: spent some 'time out' visiting Bar Harbour to see Craft Directions - Maine's Craft Show. Impressive, much more professional than NZ shows, well displayed and work of good quality, though pricey. Not many people there so viewing was easy. This was written in 1988. I think NZ craft shows did develop into a better quality over the 1990's and early 2000's. Alas, they seem to have regressed since then. We do not have the population in NZ for the high edge quality shows that feature in the USA.

Rocky progress...
More progress again this week. I have concentrated on adding more background colours and also ended up with what somehow looks a bit of a mess. It was not quite as I intended but it has opened up some opportunities. This is what I love about this method of working, although it can be challenging at times.....
I screened colour over some resist patterning on the screen. Somewhat of a fright...
Then added some more background colour and it is looking better.
The start of introducing the figures which are to appear in this series of work. Still further to be done here....
Photo from Haystack website.
Another Haystack moment. Haystack School of Crafts is built amongst the rocks and trees on the coast of Maine, USA. One balmy evening a few of us walked along the coast. I sat on a rock and watched the beautiful sunset, realizing that the sun was heading to the other side of the world towards New Zealand, where my family would be welcoming it. A little bit of me went with it that evening....
